Este sábado se disputará en Alicante la I Jornada de Flag de la Liga Valenciana. La competición tendrá lugar en el campo del Hipódromo, entre las 14 y las 16:30. Los equipos participantes seran los Spartans de la Nucía, los Mustangs de Mutxamel y los Sharks de Alicante,

Be at the Bus station in benidrom so we can leave at 12.30 sharp

Quedamos em la estacion de autobuses benidorm,a las 12 :15 para salirnos a las 12 y media en punto gracias

In the Shadow of Hercules the Spartans Came

The Spartans came into their 1st ever league match facing two teams that made the playoff last year and under the shadow of Hercules FC stadium
For the 1st time the Spartans were at full strength and quietly hoping for good things after their recent 3rd place finish in the VI Memorial Barceló tournament however things got off to a fairly rocky start for the rookie team with the Muxamiel Mustangs jumping out to a 13 point lead, however the Spartans showed a great fighting spirit and got back into the game trailing only 1 point at the half 13-12
The second half of the game sore a seesaw battle with neither team able to cause any separation from each other and trading points that lead to a 27-27 game ,
With the score tied up the game was heading into overtime but unlike the NFL who uses sudden death both teams would be allowed a possession.
The Spartans now finding their way had the ball 1st a started to put a confident drive together forcing their way across midfield and gaining a 1st down, with a new set of downs available the Spartans wasted no time and took a shot down field with QB Ben McMahon connecting with RB Toni Regalad Olivares for the go ahead score.
With the mustangs now getting their overtime possession the Spartans were on Defense but unlike the 1st half they were now playing like a different team, however the mustangs started to drive and were just mere feet from gaining a new set of downs but the Spartans at this point were not to be out done after coming from behind and broke up the pass meaning the Spartans had won their 1st ever league game,

The Second Game of the day was against the host the Alicante sharks and team that not only made the playoffs last year must also made it to the national final day last year as well.
The sharks came out with a new strategies this time one that the Spartans had never seen them use before in their previous encounters, this time they came out throwing long and quick score in the hope of putting this rookie team away early but the Spartans defense buoyed on by the last minute stop in the previous game held strong and that’s the way the 1st half went until 30 seconds from the half when the Spartans created a big play and were mere inches from getting the 1st score of the game.
With mere seconds left on the clock the Spartans punched the ball home to go into the half up by 7
The second half of the game was great for lovers of a defensive game as both Defense managed to hold the counterparts at bay however the running game of the Spartans would be the difference maker when on the 3 minute mark and the game winding down the Spartan switched to a more of a running style but the running back never got the massage and with the 1st play of the drive from our own 5yrd line he broke loose and tool it to the house for a touchdown to put the Spartans up 13 with time running out.
The sharks put a great drive together and drove the length of the field but by doing so cost the time with 20 seconds left the got on the board but would not get another chance to see the ball with the Spartans taking position and running though clock out for the win
Coach Ben McMahon said at the end of the game that why there was big play highlights from 1 or 2 players but the team ultimately won together. there were people today the just went about their business and put in a solid display while others had to overcome personal adversity in the opening minutes but came back strong at the end to help seal both wins. In these particular games it would be wring to give credit to the few when we had problems as the team in the opening half but still came back as a team in the rest of the day and that what American football is all about.
Once we sort out our mental mistakes we will become an even better team than we all ready are. We have the physical skills to go a long way in this league we just need to pin down the mental part.
